“UN SOGNO È LA SPERANZA” When speaking of women artists and creators, we often use words such as forgotten, silenced, invisible, unknown, relegated, in the shadows... These are terms that reflect a reality which, sadly, has been all too common throughout history — especially in the world of music. For centuries, women have had to overcome invisible barriers, often imposed by social and cultural norms, simply to express themselves, to compose, and to be recognised for their talent.
We, Duo Baalbeck, hold on to the dream and the hope that this situation is finally beginning to change. Today, the world is awakening to the importance of making women visible in all areas — both scientific and artistic. The struggle for equality is gaining ground, and it seems that the path towards greater equity is at last beginning to open. Little by little, women are being recognised and admired not only for their technical and artistic skill, but also for their transformative power.
With this project, we wish to make our small contribution by shining a light on nine classical women composers from the 19th and 20th centuries, each of whom has left behind a valuable legacy.
Each piece on this album is a testament to the mastery and creativity of these composers who, despite the challenges of their time, succeeded in leaving an indelible mark.
